From Jerusalem, true geographic north — Zaphon — is the Arctic. The broad expanse of the earth's northern regions — Siberia, Northern Canada, the Arctic Ocean, Greenland — is the widest, most spatially vast region on earth when viewed from a globe rather than a flat Mercator projection that distorts northern landmasses. The Hebrew raqia — translated vault, firmament, expanse — is from raqa, meaning to beat out, to spread thin like metal. It describes something solid, hammered into shape. Not empty space.

"Can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?"

The firmament compared to cast bronze. Hard. Reflective. A physical material, not empty space. Job is one of the oldest books in the Biblical canon — this cosmology predates the Greco-Roman spherical earth model by centuries.

Psalm 93:1

"The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure."

The earth is established — fixed and immovable. The Hebrew word tikon means to be fixed, established, prepared. This is cosmological language describing a stationary earth, not a spinning ball hurtling through space at 67,000 mph.

"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in."

The circle of the earth — chug in Hebrew — means a circle or disk, not a sphere. The heavens stretched like a canopy suggests a dome. The cosmological picture is consistent across the entire Biblical text.

The Question This Site Invites — But Does Not Force

If the firmament is a literal physical structure — if the Biblical cosmology is accurate — then the space program that Werner von Braun built was not exploring an infinite universe of billions of galaxies.
